    Brian Kersten Veterinarian

From a Wisconsin farm to the forefront of veterinary medicine, Brian Kersten Veterinarian’s journey is a remarkable tale of passion and dedication. Nurtured amidst nature and animals, he found his life’s calling early on. Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota, he graduated with high distinction in 1977, laying a solid foundation for his future endeavors.

His dream of making veterinary care affordable and accessible culminated in establishing Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, WI. Here, he applies his extensive knowledge in small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry, ensuring all pets receive the care they deserve. Additionally, his role as a relief veterinarian in Amery, WI, allows him to extend his services, further championing animal welfare.

1983 was pivotal, as he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. His initial professional years were spent in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, WI, where he honed his skills and deepened his understanding of animal care. His dedication took him to Haiti in 1985, where, for 2.5 years, he worked relentlessly for rural development. Upon his return to the U.S., he acquired a veterinary practice in Baldwin, WI, in 2001, simultaneously serving as the President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society.

His journey took another turn in 2016 when he sold his practice, but his enthusiasm for animal welfare remained undiminished. This led to the establishment of Mercy Veterinary Service in 2021, a clinic that stands as a testament to his lifelong commitment to animals. Beyond his veterinary practice, he actively contributes to charitable causes, volunteering at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, supporting the global initiatives of Mercy Corps, and providing veterinary care at Barefoot Crow Animal Rescue.

Away from his professional commitments, he leads a fulfilling personal life, engaging in hobbies such as gardening and playing the guitar. As he celebrates 40 years since graduating from veterinary school in 2023, Brian's legacy continues to thrive, embodying a deep-seated passion for animal welfare and community service.
